It’s Monday morning. You are motivated to start the week. You set your goals and write your actions. You have every intention to accomplish them.
Then…reality sets in.
An old colleague calls that you’ve been trying to reach for weeks. Your client emails with a delay in the project. You check Facebook and 2 hours later find yourself on some web site learning about how to get more blog traffic (or how to train your dog to get the newspaper).
It’s so easy to get off-track, especially when we attempt to focus on the things we “have” to do or don’t really want to do.
It’s those times that FOCUS feels like a 4-letter word!
I have to admit, focus is not one of my fortes. I enjoy so many things that focusing on one can feel too stifling. “I don’t want to, I don’t have to and nobody can make me!”
Sound familiar?
What if FOCUS could actually free you up to do other things (vs. take your freedom away). Focus starts with a frame of mind. It’s all about how you relate to it.
Do you treat it like a 4-letter word or do you embrace it as an ally supporting you to achieve your goals?
A huge shift occurred for me this year when I got clear on where I want to take my business. I knew it would take greater focus but something had to shift. I realized focus doesn’t have to mean losing my freedom or choice (which, by the way are huge values of mine).
Focusing could actually give me freedom, the freedom to pursue what is most important to me so that I can have what I truly want?
This was a new and refreshing concept I have taken on.
If focusing is not your forte, I invite you to look at how you currently relate to it and whether it fully supports you in your life. (Check out the Monthly Freebie & Workout below to get you started)
What kind of game do YOU want to play for the rest of this year? Is your ability to focus limiting you or empowering you to achieve what you truly want?
This is not about managing your “to-dos”. This is about radically shifting how you relate to focus so you produce the results you want…in a way that works for you.
Amazing things happen when we focus our energy on that which we truly want.
It’s like focusing your camera for a beautiful photograph of your life.

Let’s Put This Into Action – Monthly Workout
Take some time out this month to explore your perspective on focus.
- What does focus mean to you? How do you currently relate to it?
- Does your current view limit you or empower you to achieve your goals?
- How do you want this year to be different?
- If your current view of focus feels limiting, what would need to shift? What might you need to give up or take on?
- If you gave that up or took it on, what new way could you relate to focus?
- From this new view, what’s possible for you – for your business and life?
Practice trying this new perspective on and notice what opens up and shifts for you and others around you. And, check out the tools I use to help stay focused – Monthly & Weekly Intentions and Daily Actions Worksheet.

Great post about talking to your business and listening to what it has to say. My business told me I was being neglectful and I needed to be more consistent – truth! By the way, really loved “Be the Ocean”. Powerful!
Thank you Michelle!
